Agency:
Northwest Center for Public Health Practice (Washington)
Practice Description:

Emergency Risk Communication for Public Health Professionals is an online course that presents fundamental training concepts for communicating with the media and community in the event of a public health emergency. The main goal of the course is to enhance the ability of public health professionals to communicate with the media and the community during a public health crisis. The pandemic influenza simulation included as part of this course is innovative and allows public health professionals to practice specific skills, such as answering a pandemic influenza hotline. The entire course, although not pandemic-specific, includes several learning modules and a skills training component. Also included is a useful toolkit of checklists and worksheets that allow public health professionals to practice skills such as writing a press release and planning for staffing or resource needs. The course and pandemic influenza simulation may best be applicable to the needs of state and local health departments.
